I just got married to my best friend on July 5 2008 in the Oakland CA temple of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. I grew up in Monterey, CA and in December 2008 we packed up and headed East to Salt Lake City. Chris left to make peace in the Middle-East for 9 months in June 2009. Our beautiful baby Jude was born naturally at 7.14 am on September 25, 2009 with the assistance of my husband (the best doula there is!) and two wonderful midwives Becky McInnis and Honey Newton.
I feel very strongly about women having the option to choose where and how to give birth. The things that doctors are allowed to do to pregnant and labouring women is shocking. This country's intervention (induction, epidural, c-section) rates are astronomical...and no one is doing anything about it! Women are lied to and manipulated every day, and what for? For money, and for doctors' own convenience. This is a TERRIBLE thing! "Birth is safe. Intervention is risk". If you have a low-risk pregnancy there is no reason to give birth in a ho$pital. Do yourself a big favour and find a yourself a midwife and a doula. Labour is very intense but worth every minute.
